In this poem you will see that after what could be seen as a romantic scene, Horace shows us that he is really insulting Pyrrha. He is accusing her of trifling with a young boy's affections before breaking his heart as she has done to countless more men in the past and will no doubt continue to do in the future. In the final stanza Horace reveals that he himself will have nothing more to do with love : are we to infer that Pyrrha has broken his heart too? |
